It turns out there's a good reason why most personal blogs I see are on blogger or blogspot. Templates are sooo much easier to deal with than they are in Wordpress. And of course, there are the lovely 'follow' tools that let you keep track of (and be kept track of by) others without a mile long link list.
I feel more than a little silly to be doing all this changing and reconfiguring in such a short span of time, but maybe better sooner rather than later. I'm going to take a couple days transfering posts over manually, and then leave a marker and that'll be that!
