Monotangle Challenge #1 (aka Trying New Things)

This past week has been a good one for trying some new things, craft wise - on Saturday, I took a 2 hour class in learning how to use a drop spindle to make yarn (or thread if it's thin enough) out of wool.  I've been practicing a litttle bit everyday with that - I'm still just learning the technique and not worrying about the finished result.  Once I manage to create something yarnlike, I'll share some pictures.

I also decided it was a good week to begin playing with doodling.  I'd bought some drawing pens and a large box of blank ACEO art cards - so I'm not doing the Zentangle squares, but close enough.  Mindful Creations has just started a drawing challenge: Adventures in Monotangles, where the entire piece is done with a single pattern, done in a variety of ways.  Since I'm new to the whole thing, this seemed like a good way to jump in.

I did three versions, all using a 'z-string' starter - the first and last use  the pattern Roy Stauffer did - Cubine, while  the one in the middle (which was  the first I tried) uses the last "Z" pattern on Tangle Patterns - the Zuan Shi.  This was a lot of fun - I'm looking forward to doing more!
